No matter how live your potential cards, there is going to be a raise and you’ll end up all-in against people drawing better than you. It is too late for the fact that the 8 is concealed to make any difference.

3. King brings it in. 2 calls. 6 raises. A calls. 6 raises. 4 raises.
You hold (A 6) 2.

Raise the maximum (2). A small raise (1). Call (1). Pass (0).
The time has passed for fancy play. All the money is going in and you have the ultimate poker hand but don’t be surprised if you lose. Passing isn’t so dreadful, provided you are extremely tight and want to pick a better spot. But don’t tell anyone after the pot.

4. (??) 7 2 has bet. (??) 3 8 calls. You hold (A 4) 7 9.
Pass (2). Call (-2). Raise (-100).
The second player at least is certainly beating you.

5.You hold (6 5) 2 3. Two players are to speak with (??) A 8 and (??) 7 2.
Check (2). Bet (1).
You aren’t giving away all that much as a 4 is ruination. Marvelous things may happen if you hit an ace later. Unhappily, if you bet and the A 8 calls, the 7 2 may raise.

6. (??) 6 5 has bet. (??) 3 Q calls. You hold (A 2) 4 7.
Raise the same amount as the first player (3). Raise the pot (2). Call (-1). Pass (-100).
If the first player cooperates, he will also raise a small tempter. If the Q again calls, it is time to move in. This is a rare example of two players cooperating legitimately. Very few lowball hands are worth slow playing on fourth street; the 3 Q can catch up. Thus a call is mediocre. Oddly enough, if the middle player holds (??) 3 8, often a small raise will budge him whereas he will keep coming for a monster bet. This is because he doesn’t fancy bruising his ego during the agony of a series of small raises.

7. (3 2) 7 5 9 against (??) 3 6 A fancying (a) an all-in bet (b) a pot bet where there are still bundles left to bet. He has charged on third and fourth streets.

Call (2) Pass (1). Raise (in the latter case) (-10).
He may well have paired up. Next card you should pass if he hits a good card, possibly even if you do so as well.

8. (A 2) 6 6 against (??) 3 K which has checked.
Bet small, e.g. $200 (2). Bet the pot (-2). Check (1). Provided both of you have lots of money left, you have the advantage because he will always be first to speak and it is more difficult for him to hit a 6. Also people start acting a little crazy when they see you bet with the “inferior” hand.

9. (A 4 5) 8 3 9 7 against (???) 7 6 6 Q, where you have bet sixth street.
Check (2). Bet (0).
In the heat of the battle your opponent has forgotten you may well have a better four to a 7 than him. A small bet may jog his memory. You must leave him room to poker bluffing.

10. A K Q J 10 suited and 6 4 3 2 A are both known as Royals. What is the probability of hitting each in five cards?
Royal Flush 650,000 to 1 (1). Royal Low 2530 to 1 (2).
Because they are both called Royal, people think a perfect low is much more improbable than it actually is.
I (SR) worked with my friend David Levy of Intelligent Game Ltd. On computes to play poker. The very first sample random hand he sat down to play again sat the machine was holdem, and that was the first hand he had ever played of this particular version of poker. The flop was K♥-J♥-10♥ and he had A♥-Q♥. Of course, he slowplayed with a check on the flop and fourth street after the machine had checked. Finally, he bet on the river and the machine passed. Now, that is what I call an ultimate bad beat!
